Jimmies get past Presentation College

Terrell Alfred provided the spark University of Jamestown men's basketball needed Monday night, Dec. 10, in Aberdeen, S.D.

The junior 3-point marksman nailed a trio of second-half 3s in a span of 3 minutes against Presentation College. The flurry led Jamestown to a 96-89 victory over the Saints.

"Man, I don't think we played very well but we snuck out with one tonight," said Jimmie men's basketball coach Danny Neville in an interview with AM 1400 ESPN Jamestown.

Presentation drained 6 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half, including one from senior Quadre Lollis late, and the Saints led 45-44 at the half. The home team scored 17 points off nine turnovers committed by the Jimmies in the opening 20 minutes.

But a 3 by Jametown's Jon Purintun in the opening 2 minutes of the second half produced the game's eighth and final lead change at 49-47 Jimmies. Alfred then broke down the door, as his barrage put UJ out front by 10 markers, 73-63, with 10 minutes remaining.

Purintun led the Jimmies in scoring with 20 points. Alfred hit five totals 3s and tallied 19.

"We competed a lot harder in the second half. I think we were kinda sleeping there in the first half," Neville said. "It's always nice to walk out of here with a win without playing your best basketball. I don't think we did a great job guarding tonight."

Brock Schrom (18 points) and Brady Birch (13) also hit double figures in scoring for the Jimmies, who improved to 12-3 on the season. Elijah Coleman led five Saints in double-digit scoring with 22.

Jamestown keeps non-conference play rolling hosting Dickinson State this Friday, Dec. 14, and Valley City State on Saturday, Dec. 15.

"Two more teams that hate us," Neville said.
