JHS gymnastics ranked fourth

Jamestown High School is ranked fourth in the state gymnastic rankings with a score of 135.462. Dickinson is ranked first with a score of 146.706, followed by Grand Forks at 139.785.

Rankings are based on team scores since Monday, Jan. 7.

Jimmie basketballs to host barefoot games

University of Jamestown's men's and women's basketball teams will host the 2nd annual Samaritan's Feet barefoot basketball games and shoe drive on Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Jimmies host Concordia University (Neb.) at Harold Newman Arena. The women's game is at 2 p.m., while the men follow at 4 p.m.

Both basketball coaching staffs will be in their bare feet to bring awareness for the need of shoes in the United States and around the world.

Fans who donate a new pair of children shoes will be admitted to the game for free and are encouraged to bring athletic shoes in toddler sizes 10-13 or children's 1-5.

People wishing to donate that cannot attend the game can drop off shoes inside the Newman Arena front entrance from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Jan. 7-18. On Saturday, Jan. 26, a shoe distribution will be held to benefit children in local communities.

Over 6,500 pairs of shoes have been distributed in North Dakota since 2013, including Jamestown and seven other cities.

KC hosting annual free throw event

The Jamestown Knights of Columbus will host their annual free throw championship on Sunday, Jan. 13, in the upstairs gym of the KC Hall (519 1st Ave South) for ages 9-14. Registration for the free-for-all event is at 12:30 p.m., followed by the competition at 1 p.m.

Competitors will compete in their respective categories to earn a chance at advancing to the district and regional competition in Valley City. A valid form of state-issued ID is needed to verify age.

Parks and Rec announce basketball program

Jamestown Parks and Recreation is holding a six-week boys basketball program for grades 1-4. Games will be played on Saturday mornings from Jan. 26 to March 2.

A registration form and $20 fee is due to the Parks and Recreation office (1002 2nd Avenue) by Friday, Jan. 18. The cost will be $30 after the deadline.

Cabin Fever Days Feb. 1-10

Jamestown Parks and Recreation's Cabin Fever Days are Feb. 1-10, the department announced on Dec. 31.
