The defending Class B girls basketball Region 3 champion Kidder County Wolves will begin the season ranked fourth in the first statewide media ranking released Monday, Dec. 2.

Kidder County finished last season at 25-2 overall, defeating Trenton in state tournament consolation play last March in Grand Forks following losses to Rugby and Langdon/Edmore/Munich in the first two rounds. Langdon (No. 2), Trenton (No. 5) and Rugby (RV) all appear in the first poll of the season, which is topped by defending state champion Kindred.

Region 3's Linton-HMB, LaMoure-Litchville-Marion, Oakes and Carrington (0-0) all received votes.

Kidder County returns four starters: first-team all-state junior guard Madelyn Schmidt (15.7 ppg, 4 apg, 3.9 spg), all-district senior forward Brittany Rath (14.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 3.9 spg), junior forward Hailey Pfaff (5.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and 5-foot-10 freshman forward Kennedy Harter (7.2 pgg, 4 rpg).
