It wasn't the orange and black's night Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa.

The University of Jamestown men's and women's basketball teams were swept by Briar Cliff University in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Jimmies will wrap up the regular season Saturday hosting Concordia University, Nebraska.

Chargers 91, Jimmies 83

The Jimmie men suffered a third straight loss late in the season, allowing 61 points to Briar Cliff in the second half after leading 36-30 at the break. Jamestown's Jack Talley converted seven 3-pointers and scored a game-high 31 points in the losing effort.

"I thought we got a little bit tired and we just broke down on a ton of defensive assignments," said UJ men's basketball coach Danny Neville in an interview with AM 1400 ESPN Jamestown. "At the end of the day, that's on me and we're going to try to get better."

A 7-0 Chargers run in the second half broke a tie ball game and handed the home team a 68-61 advantage with eight minutes remaining in the game. Briar Cliff pushed the advantage to double digits with three to play before Jamestown's 6-foot-6 Brady Birch fouled out with UJ trailing 85-78 at the two-minute mark.

Freshman forward Mason Walters would also exit with five fouls in the final 30 seconds down seven. Jamestown has been playing down the stretch without an injured 6-8 Brock Schrom.

Briar Cliff's Jaden Kleinhesselink and Jackson Lamb each scored 26, as the Chargers improved to 15-14 overall at 6-13 in the GPAC.

"We as a team just need to be better on the other end (defensively)," Neville said. "We've just gotta buckle down and be tougher."

Jamestown (18-11, 9-10 GPAC) has qualified for next Wednesday's GPAC tournament quarterfinals and will open the postseason on the road. Concordia (20-9 overall) defeated the Jimmies 86-74 on Jan. 11 in Seward, Nebraska.

Saturday's tipoff at Harold Newman Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m., following the women's game at 2 p.m.

Neville said: "We've got one more regular-season game left on Saturday and we need to send these seniors out this season with a win."

Chargers 77, Jimmies 70 OT

Jimmie women's basketball suffered a seven-point overtime loss to the Chargers after leading 60-47 with 7 minutes, 21 seconds to play in regulation. Briar Cliff touched off a 17-4 run, capped by an Alyssa Carly 3-pointer as time expired in the fourth quarter to send the game to OT.

Carley finished scoring a game-high 25 points, as the Chargers pulled away in the five-minute overtime. Olivia Anderson (13 points) and Hannah DeMars (10) paced UJ in scoring.

The Jimmies wrap up the regular season hosting No. 3-ranked Concordia University on Saturday at 2 p.m. Jamestown is locked into the No. 7 seed for next Wednesday's Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals and will travel to play the second seed, which would be No. 2-ranked Hastings College with a loss Saturday hosting the Bulldogs.
