Two players surpassed 1,000 career points Friday night as Oakes boys basketball and Oak Grove combined for 218 points after two overtimes in Fargo.

The Grovers held on to win 110-108 in double overtime.

Senior guard Garret Meehl scored 26 points for Oakes and eclipsed 1,000 career markers, while 6-foot-4 senior forward Noah Swenson scored 17 and surpassed the milestone as well for Oak Grove. Neither led their respective team in scoring Friday.

Oakes' 6-4 senior center Ashton Biesterfeld turned in a game-high 35, while Mason Martinson nailed seven 3-pointers and finished scoring 27. Regulation ended at 85-85.

Oakes (5-2), ranked in the Class B media poll's top 10 in the preseason and currently receiving votes, rebounded Saturday with a convincing 89-37 victory hosting Richland. Steele Hansen (27) and Meehl (20) each hit 20 in scoring.

Thunder win on road

Thunder girls basketball ended the Cardinals' three-game winning streak Saturday in Ellendale.

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan locked down the Cards 13-4 in the second quarter to eventually win by nine points.

Ellendale (4-7) is at 10th-ranked Carrington (7-3) on Monday, while MPB (6-2) takes on Strasburg/Zeeland (2-10) on Tuesday at the Jamestown Civic Center beginning at 3 p.m.

Carrington fell at No. 1-ranked Central Cass (9-0) 59-40 on Saturday.
