It won't be the team's best performance this season, but it was still a successful day for the Blue Jay gymnastics team in Fergus Falls on Saturday.

Jamestown just edged the Otters 133.2 to 132.9 in the team standings, led by a 1-2-3-4 performance on bars. Blue Jay coach Dave Tews said his team left some points on the table, but it was still a positive outing overall.

"We hurt ourselves with execution errors. We had the skills, but didn't execute like we can," Tews said. "The meet had a different format, with girls doing some JV and some varsity, and this caused some confusion as well, for both meet management and athletes."

Senior Erin Hillerud, who is still rehabbing a knee injury suffered during the diving season, won the bars with a score of 8.6. She was followed in order by seventh-grader Rachel Schiele (8.3), sophomore Hannah Schiele (8.25) and sophomore Alexis Triebenbach (8.2).

Hannah Schiele and Rachel Schiele tied for the top spot on vault (8.850, 8.9 tiebreak), and where also Jamestown's top two all-around finishers, with Hannah placing third (33.4) and Rachel placing fourth (33.1).

Hannah Schiele also turned in Jamestown's best beam score (8.250), which was good enough for third, and Rachel Schiele edged Triebenbach for fourth place during the floor exercise. Both scored an 8.85, but Rachel's 8.5 tiebreak score was the difference.

Junior Maggie Ridley also came away with a fourth-place finish on beam for Jamestown (8.1).

The Blue Jays host the Christmas Invite on Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

"Although the scores were down, we did many good things," Tews said. "We're excited to go on to Tuesday to fix some things."
