Chea Baugh was one second short of her goal Saturday afternoon in Bismarck.
The standout swimmer for the Jamestown High School girls swimming and diving team led the Jays at the 2020 state swimming and diving meet in Bismarck where the Jays placed 13th out of 17 competing teams.
Baugh, a four-year varsity team member and only Blue Jay to be named to the 2020 WDA All-Conference team, swam to state qualifying times in all of the individual events save diving and the 100-yard breaststroke. Baugh said she had a goal of finishing the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 20 seconds -- a goal she missed by 1.39 seconds. The 2:21.39 she swam was good enough to crack the top-15 individual finishes.
The sophomore also placed high in the 100 butterfly where she finished 15th out of 24 competing swimmers.
Haley Nelson was also a top-finisher for the Jays' diving team, turning in a score of 358.15. Nelson placed 10th.
