The Jamestown High School boys golf team battled the heat and gusty conditions down in the capital city Monday afternoon.

The Blue Jays finished tied for fifth out of the nine teams competing at Riverwood Golf Course. Andrew Walz led the Jays to a 355-point finish, tying Dickinson.

Bismarck Century won the invite carding a 321. Trey Hohbein of Mandan was the invite medalist scoring a 36-37--73.

Walz came up with the Jays' best score of the day with an 18-hole 84. Brad Burnham and Shea Carroll tied for the No. 2 score with 89s while Brooks Carroll shot a 47-46--93. Jed Truax shot a 95 and Easton Romsdal rounded out the top-six with a 96.

The Jays are slated to travel to The Links of North Dakota on Monday. The invite is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

Soccer wins

The Jamestown High School soccer team has pushed its win-streak to two games.

The Blue Jays toppled Bismarck Legacy 3-0 Monday evening at the Sanford Sports Complex in Bismarck. The Jays previously tied the Sabers in a 0-0 draw at Jamestown's Rotary Field but the Blue Jays were tired of coming up even.

Junior winger Haley Nelson broke the ice in the 27th minute, taking advantage of a pass from Sara Sletto. While Nelson's ball found the back of the net, JHS head coach Brandi Harty said the team struggled to stay connected and didn't attack with purpose.

That all changed after the 10-minute break.

"After talking at halftime the team stepped up their play and had a great second half," Harty said. "All three goals tonight were well executed. I am so happy with how this team is progressing."

Harty also commended her goalkeeper Leah Torres. Torres, an eighth-grader for Harty, had to step in as starting goalie after Olivia Sorlie suffered an injury last month. Torres made four saves in the net.

The Jays will be back in action on Friday at their own field hosting WDA leader Minot. The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Track and Field completes regular season

The Jamestown High School track and field team closed out their regular season at the Bill Jansen Last Chance Meet in Valley City Monday night.

The Blue Jays' girls team ended up first with 141 points while the boys ended up in second with 142.5. Kindred took the boy's competition with 177 total team points.

Meghan Ford qualified to the 2021 state meet in the 800-meter run, cruising to a 2 minute, 19-second finish. Ben Anteau also won the 800-meter run crossing the line at 2:00.55.

In the sprints, Annie Nabwe ran a personal record of 25.85 seconds to win the 200-meter dash. The junior's time qualified her to the state meet by more than a second. The boys' 4x100 meter relay team placed first with a time of 45.25 seconds.

Thomas Allmer placed first in the discus, launching his disc 138 feet, 9 inches.

Next up for the Blue Jays is the West Regional Meet slated for Friday at the Bismarck Community Bowl. Running events are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. with field events to follow at 3:30 p.m.
