A slow start, and some shaky defense, doomed Jamestown Post 14 in the opener of Friday night's doubleheader against the Moorhead Blues.

The Blues led 5-0 after three innings and went on for a 6-1 victory in game 1 at Jack Brown Stadium. Moorhead went on to finish off the sweep 11-3. The Sun had a 9:30 deadline on Friday night. No additional details were available at press time.

Post 14 committed six errors in the opener. The game featured 19 hits, 18 being singles.

"It was a combination of a number of things," said Jamestown head coach Cory Anderson "The things we have been doing pretty consistently up to this point, we came up short in those areas."

Offensively that meant an inability to come up with timely hits and failing to get the leadoff man on. Post 14 had eight hits-all singles-but only twice did the first batter reach.

"We've done a pretty nice job up to this point of getting the leadoff hitter on and then going from there," Anderson said. "We were a little impatient with some early swings, but their pitcher (Mitchell Amundson) deserves credit too. He's good. He was in command of the game for the most part."

Drew Anderson plated the first run of the game in the first inning with a ground out and then singled home leadoff batter Eli Johnson in the second to make it 3-0.

It was 5-0 after three innings as Moorhead strung together four singles in the top of the third. An error, Jamestown's third in three innings, contributed.

"We just didn't play catch," Anderson said summing up the defensive miscues.

Post 14 had three straight singles in the bottom of the first inning from Brian Wenzel, Tyler Ukestad and Nate Soulis, but nothing came of it.

Soulis and Hogan had back-to-back knocks in the bottom the third, but were stranded.

Their lone run came in the bottom of the fourth when Ben Friebel stole third and the throw sailed into left field, allowing Friebel to score and make it 5-1.

Wenzel and Soulis had two hits each for Jamestown, which is back in action on Monday night, hosting West Fargo at 5:30 p.m.
