Whitney Carlson came up just short of All-American honors on Saturday at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore.

Carlson, a Buchanan native, finished 11th in the long jump with a mark of 20-feet 3 3/4 inches. The top 10 earn All-American honors.

UTEP's Blessing Okagbare won the long jump with a leap of 22-3 1/2.

Carlson holds the NDSU record of 21-1 1/2 in the event.

Carlson competed in Day 1 of the heptathlon on Wednesday, but did not finish.

Teammate Heather Zander also competed in the heptathlon and placed 10th overall with a score of 5,427 points. The Mandan native became just the second NDSU athlete to earn All-American honors since the school moved to Division I.
