Tournament-host Mandan went down to the wire in its Class A State-tournament opener, but the Braves got it done in the end.
Dwight Mack drove in Brett Byran in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie and eventually lift Mandan to a 1-0 victory over Grand Forks Red River Thursday in Mandan.
Reid Jungling started on the hill for the Braves and pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Ryne Anderson also went the distance for Grand Forks Red River but was saddled with the loss after giving up the lone run in the fifth inning. Anderson struck out seven but also walked seven while giving up just one hit.
Bismarck Century 13, West Fargo 3

Bismarck Century beat up on West Fargo 13-3 to start its Class A state tournament.
The Patriots had 14 hits and capitalized on three errors to move into the championship bracket.
Tate Leapalt, along with pitching the complete game for Century, went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Teammate Logan Rauhauser went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs.
Leapaldt allowed just three runs on eight hits and three walks. He also struck out four.
Bismarck 15, Devils Lake 3, 5 innings
The Bismarck Demons put up nine runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 15-3 victory over Devils Lake.
Jon Feist and Mike Hauser each had a hit and 3 RBIs in the game, while Austin Zorn went 3 for 3 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs.
Alec Grothe earned the win out of the bullpen for the Demons after taking over for starter Alex Deyle in the fourth.

Fargo South 5, Williston 4
Fargo South used a three-run bottom of the seventh to rally and defeat Williston 5-4.
David Ernst did a bit of everything for the Bruins, pitching five innings and driving in two runs off a 2 for 4-performance from the plate.
Fargo South reliever Bryce Venaas came into the game in the sixth and earned the victory.
