The defending Region 3 champions in Class B girls basketball started off the new season with a victory in LaMoure on Friday night.
The LaMoure-Litchville-Marion Loboes turned away the visiting Medina-Pingree-Buchanan Thunder 42-29, behind 4-of-8 shooting behind the three-point arc by sophomore Jackie Meiklejohn.
Meiklejohn scored 13 points, while Anna Holen hit a pair of treys and scored 12 for the home team. The Loboes led 21-17 at the half, but limited the Thunder to just two points in the third period to pull away.
M-P-B eighth-grader Megan Moser paced the Thunder with scoring eight points.

Carrington 56, Velva 39
The Carrington Cardinals erupted for 22 third-period points to defeat the Velva Aggies 56-39 in Carrington.
Kauri hochhalter led the way for the home team in the win, splashing in 19 points. Maara Nelson (12) and Haley Hewitt (10) also hit double figures for the Cardinals, who improved to 2-0 in the early-going.

South Border's Elisabeth Dalke scored 14 points and Kayla Rohr hit three treys and scored 10, all helping the Mustangs top the Cardinals in Ellendale by two points.
South Border led after each period, but Ellendale made things interesting in the fourth. Isabell Wedell led all scoring in the game for the Cardinals with 19 points.
