Class B volleyball roundup: Thunder drowns out Bison

Barnes County North started off hot in Medina but it was the home team who pulled out the win Thursday night.

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan downed the Bison in a four-set win to improve to 7-4 overall. BCN dropped to 5-6 losing its second straight. With the win on Thursday MPB pushed its win streak to three consecutive games.

Freshman outside Allison Thomas once again topped the kill charts for the Thunder. Thomas drilled 13 balls past the Bison defense and kept 21 of the returned balls alive for setter Lilly Bohl. Abigail Reich helped slow down hits from the Bison with seven blocks for the Thunder.

Barnes County North will travel to Griggs-Midkota (2-7) on Monday while MPB will be at Strasburg/Zeeland (4-4) on Tuesday.

Lions clinch win No. 12

It didn't take the Linton/HMB volleyball team very long to get the win Thursday evening.

The Lions clinched their 12th consecutive win with a three-set 25-11, 25-13, 25-5 sweep of EKM. Linton/HMB still sits atop Region 3, District 6 standings at 12-0 while EKM fell to 1-9 and 0-4 in Region 3, District 5.

Linton's JayCee Richter tallied more kills than all the Rebels' hitters combined. Richter swung for 11 kills at the net while EKM posted seven on the night. Teegan Scherr and ShayLee Bosch combined for 18 more balls smashed.

It was not just the three at the net putting points on the board for Linton.

Emily Kelsch was busy racking up points for the Lions from the No. 1 spot. Kelsch served up a team-high of five aces.

The Rebels will travel to Barnes County North (5-5) on Tuesday. Linton will host Faulkton Area (SD) on Saturday.

LaMoure outlasts South Border in four

Rose Wendel wasn't taking it easy on the South Border defense Thursday night.

The junior setter for the LaMoure/Litchville-Marion fed the ball up to the Loboes offense 19 times to help lead LaMoure/LM to a 3-1 win over South Border. The Loboes improved to 8-5 overall while South Border fell to 7-4. The Mustangs are still in spot No. 2 in the Region 3, District 6 standings at 2-1.

When Wendel wasn't setting up leading hitters Heidi Steffes and Molly Musland she was racking up the points from the back line. Wendel served up eight aces while Nateal Rodin racked up three more unpassable serves.

On Monday LLM will travel to Carrington (6-2, 2-0) while South Border will travel to Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter (2-4, 0-3). Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
