SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — The University of Jamestown took advantage of five Dordt University errors as they got a 5-4 win on Tuesday, April 18, at Dordt’s Baseball Complex.

The Jimmies opened the scoring in the first inning on a Hayden Brown single before adding two more runs in the second to make it 3-0. The Defenders fought back in the third when Logan Harris hit a two-run shot to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Defenders hit another long ball in the fifth to tie the game up before Harris came up and hit his second shot of the day to push his team in front 4-3.

The Jimmies tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning before retaking the lead when Troy Berg reached on an error allowing Ben Patton to score. It was one of two Jimmies runs that were unearned, part of five Defenders errors.

The Jimmies bullpen was lights out in relief of Elias Harris pitching the last 2.1 innings giving up two hits and striking out three hitters.

Berg’s big day helps Jimmies in game two:

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Jimmies turned to freshman Troy Berg to help them get the victory. The Dickinson native went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a 4-3 win over the Defenders.

The Jimmies (20-16, 9-9) struck first in the third when Berg hit an RBI single to make it 1-0. In the fifth, the Defender’s Kaden Davis crushed a two-run shot to take a 2-1 lead. The Defenders (16-22, 4-16) pushed the lead out to 3-1 on a Juan Sanchez solo shot in the sixth. In the bottom half of the frame, the Jimmies’ Jordan Singleton came up and deposited one right over the wall in center to tie the game up at three.

Berg came up in the seventh with a runner on second and hit a line drive up the middle, the throw from the centerfielder Harris brought the catcher Sanchez a little bit up the line and into the basepaths where he was trucked by Chase Burke forcing Sanchez to drop it, giving the Jimmies the 4-3 win.

The Jimmies are back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, when they go to Northwestern College.
