HASTINGS, NEB. — The University of Jamestown has put an end to its losing streak with a 12-4 win over Hastings College on Saturday, March 25, at Hastings’ Duncan Field.
The Broncos opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on back-to-back singles to make it 3-0. The Jimmies punched back in the top of the second as they loaded the bases for Reece McKenzie to hit a two-run single to tie the game up at two. The Jimmies kept it going with another two runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Hastings got one back in the bottom of the second to tie the game up at four, but the Jimmies responded in the third with another four spot to push the lead out to 8-3.
The Jimmies added on in the fourth thanks to a Julian Sansores two-run double to make it 10-3 and then a two-run fifth made it 12-3. On the mound the Jimmies’ Luke Zimmer pitched a complete game giving up four runs on five hits and striking out six.

Jimmies win offensive shootout in game two:
The second game of the doubleheader saw the Jimmies mount a late comeback to survive a shootout 13-11 over the Broncos.
The Broncos (8-16, 2-2) opened the scoring early again with a two-run single from Tristan Martinez to make it 2-0 in the second. The Broncos added on in the third scoring on a Jimmies error to make it 3-0, one of five defensive miscues for the Jimmies in the game, with four runs scoring off those errors.
The Jimmies (13-11, 2-4) loaded the bases on a hit-by-pitch and two walks in the fourth inning to bring up Payton Smith who got his team right back into the game with a two-run single to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Jimmies added four more in the inning as they hit around to take a 6-3 lead. The big lead didn’t last very long as the Broncos responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own to cut the deficit to 6-5. The Jimmies were able to get another one across in the fifth to push the lead out to 7-5.

The Broncos led the bottom of the fifth off with Tyler Kissler reaching on an error. Two batters later the Broncos’ Mason Masur hit a two-run single to tie the game up at seven. The Broncos would keep it going in the frame, as a few batters later, Matt Lucero hit an RBI single to push his team in front 8-7. The Broncos would add three more runs in the inning to take an 11-7 lead.
The score stayed that way until the seventh when the Jimmies’ Kendall Yackley worked a bases-loaded walk to score Julian Sansores and cut the deficit to 11-8. The Jimmies got another run in the inning to cut the deficit to 11-9. The Jimmies took the lead back for good in the eighth with a four run inning started by a Julian Romero double before two batters later Julian Sansores hit an RBI double to cut the deficit to 11-10. The Jimmies pushed in front when Sansores scored on a wild pitch to push the Jimmies lead out to 12-11.
Sansores led the way for the Jimmies at the plate going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one walk.
The two teams play again at noon on Sunday, March 26.
