JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown has shut a team out for the first time this season as they got a 3-0 win over Morningside University on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Jimmie Turf Field.
The Jimmies started on the front foot as less than two minutes into the game, Kamryn Fiscus took a shot that sailed wide. The Jimmies would keep the pressure on and the Jimmies won a free kick and had to cycle the ball back around before it found the foot of Emersen Kimball who was all alone in front and she did not miss making it 1-0 15 minutes into the game. The Jimmies kept the pressure up and drew a corner just over two minutes later. The corner was curled in by Kimball and managed to fall to Iliana Ramirez who made it 2-0, 18 minutes into the game.
The Mustangs did not get their first shot on goal until the 40th minute when Lily Sidel took a shot that was saved by goalie Tea Pence. The Jimmies kept the pressure on in the second half as they took four shots in two minutes forcing goalie Megan Messersmith into a save on a header from Karlie Hintze. The Jimmies continued to try to push the game out of reach as Kimball got close to her second of the day in the 56th minute but it rang off the cross bar and stayed out. The Jimmies would find another one when they came up the field with speed and Fiscus laid it off to Gaby Sarkis who fired a missile into the upper 90 from just outside the box to make it 3-0. The Mustangs’ Merel Kooij had a chance late but the shot sailed wide of the net to see the Jimmies hang on to the win.
The Jimmies are back in action at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, when they face Hastings College.
