The No. 11 University of Jamestown hockey team pushed in the final few minutes for an equalizer. However it did not come as they lost 2-1 to the No. 3 Liberty University Flames on Feb. 18 at the LaHaye Ice Center.
With 8:26 to go in the first period, the Flames’ Jason Foltz skated in and broke Jordan Poppoff’s ankles to make it 1-0, drawing the team’s teddy bear toss tradition.
The Jimmies’ Mario DeCapite drove down the left side of the ice and put the puck in the short side, to tie the game up at 1 with four and a half minutes to go in the second period.
Foltz fired a puck from the corner right to Luke Heimann who was all alone in the slot to snipe it past Tyson Brouwer to make it 2-1 with 15:45 to go in the third period.
The two teams rematch at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
