Jimmies finish eighth in NW Iowa National Invitational

The Jimmies were 11 strokes back of two teams who finished in a tie for sixth.

LE MARS, IA — After winning the UJ Fall Invite the University of Jamestown men’s golf team finished in eighth in the Northwest Iowa National Invitational with the final round coming on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Willow Creek Golf Club.

The Jimmies finished 31-strokes over par with a team score of 306, two strokes ahead of two teams that were tied for ninth in Grand View University and Missouri Valley. The highest finishing individual was Benjamin Schaefer who finished at two over par, good for a tie for eighth. The Jimmies had five golfers participating in the event in Schaefer, Jackson Worner, Max Noffsinger, Logan Douglas and Gehrig Geiss. Schaefer improved upon his round score from the first day on Monday, Sept. 20, to the second day, as he dropped from a 72 to a 70, which allowed the team to drop the score from 306 to 294. Schaefer’s second-round 70 sets a career low for him, surpassing his previous mark of 73. He is now the fifth player in program history to shoot a 70 in a round.

The longest scoring play of these games was an 85-yard kickoff return by the Huskies' Treyton Mauch.

Worner finished second on the team with a score of five-over par, which placed him in a tie for 19th alongside teammate Noffsinger. The Jimmies would fall down the leaderboards to find their next golfer as Douglas finished in 62nd with a score of 21-over par and Geiss finishing 67th with a score of 26-over par.

The event was won by Ottawa University (AZ) who finished three under par. The highest individual finisher was The Master’s University’s Jack Dudeck who finished five-under par.

The Jimmies return to the course on Monday, Oct. 3, when they take part in the Yellow Jacket Invite.
