SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The University of Jamestown went on the road to end their regular season and it took them a little bit over an hour to get a sweep (25-13, 25-12, 25-13) over Morningside on Saturday, March 18, at Morningside’s Allee Gym.
The first 14 points of the first set gave the appearance that the Jimmies were in for a battle but a kill from Oguzhan Oguz made it 7-7 and started a 5-0 run that drew a Mustangs timeout with the score at 11-7. Out of the timeout, the teams traded points before the Jimmies were able to stretch the lead out to 16-9, drawing another Mustangs timeout. This stoppage did little to slow the Jimmies down as they finished the set off on a Mustangs attack error to get the 25-13 first-set win.
The Jimmies (19-3, 8-1) started the second set like they finished the first, as they sprinted out to a 17-6 lead. After the Mustangs (7-12, 5-5) cut the deficit to 20-12, they fell apart with four errors in the next five points to give the Jimmies the 25-12 second set win.
The Jimmies continued to pour it on in the third set sprinting out to a 7-1 lead before the Mustangs cut the deficit to 9-4, the Jimmies turned to Oguz to respond and start a run that saw the freshman collect five of the Jimmies eight points to stretch the lead out to 17-8. The run was ended by a Kahakai Kahowai kill to make it 17-9 before a Mustangs service error pushed the Jimmies' lead out to 18-9. The Jimmies put the set away at 25-13, on a Mustangs attack error, it was one of 18 errors in the match for the Mustangs. On the other side, the Jimmies only had three total errors and none in the third set.
The Jimmies return to the floor on Wednesday, March 29, when they face the winner of the match between Ottawa and Kansas Wesleyan.
