MITCHELL, S.D. — The University of Jamestown scored three runs in the sixth inning and that was enough to get a 5-4 win over Dakota Wesleyan University on Tuesday, April 18, at the Tiger’s Dr. McWhirter Field.

The Tigers’ Peyton Bagley scored on a wild pitch in the first to take a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, the Jimmies tied the game up before taking the lead at 2-1 in the fourth. The Tigers tied the game up at two in the sixth on an RBI groundout. In the Jimmies half of the sixth, Ally Battistoni led off with a single and eventually moved to third with Megan Neiles coming up. Neiles gave the Jimmies the lead back with a double and was eventually brought home on a Trinity Gregg double as the lead moved out to 5-2.

The Tigers made the Jimmies sweat in the seventh by scoring two runs but the game ended on a caught stealing as the Jimmies were able to hang on to the 5-4 win.

Jimmies get comfortable game two win:

In the bottom of the first inning, the Jimmies first five hitters all reached base as two runs scored and that helped the Jimmies get a 6-1 win over the Tigers in the second game of the doubleheader.

The only reason the Jimmies (18-16, 5-7) did not score more runs in the bottom of the first was because they ran into outs as the second hitter, Samarah Martinez reached on a fielder’s choice while Trinity Gregg ran into the shortstop McKinley Mull for the first out of the inning. The next hitter was Maddie Spaeth who hit a ground ball to the pitcher Keirstyn Krcil who fired a ball to the shortstop to get the lead runner, allowing Spaeth to reach. Two batters later, Gracie Fisher hit a bloop single to right to score two runs to go ahead 2-0 but she was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

The Jimmies added two more runs in the fourth to push the lead out to 4-0 before the Tigers (7-28, 2-14) got one back in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, the Jimmies put the game away thanks to an Abby Blair triple to take a 5-1 lead.

The Jimmies are back in action at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 21, when they go to Doane University.
