SIOUX CENTER, Iowa— The University of Jamestown was held to four hits in a 5-0 loss to No. 15-ranked Northwestern University (Iowa) on Saturday, March 25, at the ASB Dome.

The Jimmies had a chance early on as Mackenzie Lefebvre hit a single to move Maddie Spaeth over to third with two outs in the top of the first but they were stranded right where they were. The Red Raiders took advantage in the bottom of the first as Gwen Mikkelsen led off the inning with a single and she was brought home on a two-run single by Kameryn Etherington to make it 2-0. The score would stay that way until the third when the Red Raiders put up another two runs, on two sacrifices, a sac fly and a ground out to push the lead out to 4-0. Mikkelsen continued her big day in the sixth as she hit an RBI single to score Cassidy Gors and make it 5-0. Mikkelsen finished the first game going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Jimmies give up late lead in game two

The Jimmies had a late lead in the second game of the doubleheader but the Red Raiders were able to walk it off in a 3-2 win.

The Jimmies’ Spaeth led off the top of the fourth with a triple and was immediately brought home on a Samarah Martinez single to tie the game up at one. The Jimmies added another score in the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Red Raiders’ Leah Schaefer came up as a pinch hitter and lined a two-run single to score Mikkelsen and Ashtyn Billings and give her team the 3-2 win.

The Jimmies return to the diamond at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, when they take on Briar Cliff.
