JAMESTOWN — The No. 13-ranked University of Jamestown and No. 4-ranked Minot State University do not like each other that much was made crystal clear in the latest iteration of the rivalry as the teams combined for 31 penalty minutes. Unfortunately for the Jimmies though the Beavers scored three power-play goals on their way to a 6-2 win over the Jimmies on Saturday, Feb. 4, at John L. Wilson Arena.

The Jimmies had plenty of opportunities on the power play though but they went 0-for-5. On the other side, the Beavers went 3-for-9 on the advantage.

The Jimmies (8-15, 5-13) opened the scoring less than a minute into the second period on a shorthanded goal from Jaeda Clayton to make it 1-0. The Beavers (16-8-1, 12-6-1) tied the game up at the 4:58 mark when Gillian Gervin scored the first of her back-to-back power-play tallies to make it 1-0. Gervin added another one to go up 2-1 later in the period before the Beavers’ Jordan Kulbida scored a shorthanded goal to push the lead out to 3-1.

Midway through the third period the Jimmies’ Kelsey Amick scored to cut the deficit to 3-2, but at the 11:57 mark of the period, Gervin completed the hat trick with another power play goal to push her team’s lead out to 4-2. After another Beavers goal made it 5-2, Gervin would add a fourth goal late in the period to put the game away at 6-2.

The two teams play again at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5.
