Valley City Public Schools activities director Mike Schultz announced the hiring of Rebekah De Pesa as the new Hi-Liner volleyball coach in a press release issued by the school on Wednesday.

De Pesa replaces Mattie Cruff who resigned in January after two years as the Hi-Liner head coach.

De Pesa went to high school in Phoenix, Arizona, where she played four years of high school volleyball. After high school graduation, she attended Northwest College in Wyoming where she played volleyball for two years.

De Pesa transferred to Valley City State University to play her final two years, where she graduated in 2013 with a degree in exercise science De Pesa has worked volleyball camps, JO volleyball and was the head volleyball coach at Barnes County North in 2018.

De Pesa presently works at Thrifty White Pharmacy in Valley City.

“Rebekah brings a great deal of volleyball playing and coaching experience to our program,” said Schultz. “She has played or coached volleyball since she was 12 years old. While working in our local juniors program, coach De Pesa has become familiar with many of our volleyball athletes.

“I feel these relationships will help the volleyball program transition to the new coach in these uncertain times.”
