Jamestown High School girls tennis players Phoebe Olson and Courtney Peterson made the East-West Classic semifinals on Saturday, May 11, but Mother Nature has other plans at West Fargo High School as the event was cut short due to rain.
"It's disappointing that we didn't get to finish it," said Blue Jay coach Paul Olson. "But with a tournament of this size and with the rain pouring the way it did, and boy did it pour, there wasn't an option to finish it. A lot of girls had a good day."
Olson, a freshman, dispatched West Fargo's Olivia Sonine 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles opening round, while defeating Fargo Davies' Madison Bell 6-1, 2-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinals.
Peterson took care of Valley City's Maisie Leick 6-4, 6-1 and shutout Bismarck High's Delaney Scanson 6-0, 6-0. The senior was slated to play Minot's Eden Olson in the semifinals.
Jamestown (3-9) travels to Mandan (7-1) on Tuesday.
