Jimmie men leading Yellowjacket Invite

University of Jamestown's Nathan Kapaun scored a big turnaround on the golf course Monday in Billings, Mont.

The senior from Fargo followed up a three-over-par 75 with a five-under 67 after two rounds of the Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket Spring Invitational. The third and final round commences today at Lake Hills Golf Course.

Kapaun caught up with teammate Austin Rene, after Rene carded a two-under 70 through 18 holes. The Jimmie duo are tied atop the leaderboard at minus two (142), with Rene scoring 10 birdies and Kapaun sinking nine.

Jamestown holds a three-stroke lead over host team MSU-Billings 581 to 584. Brandon Stahlhut (149), Jacob Rice (149) and Nolan Frank (152) rounded out the Jimmies' scorecard, while UJ's Benji Miller (73-73--146) is tied for fifth individually golfing unattached.

The Jimmie women sit 15 strokes behind MSU-Billings in second place after Monday's opening round. The final round will be played today.

Jamestown's Paige Argent and Alexis Piatz are tied for third after each fired an eight-over-par 80. Piatz recorded 11 pars through 18 holes, while Argent sank 10.

The Jimmies turned in a team score of 330. Annie Nelson (84), Savanna Nesemeier (86) and Jenna Knutson (86) reported scores for Jamestown. The Jimmies' Emma Thompson posted a pair of birdies and turned in an 87 golfing unattached.
