Kyra Vogel did her part in a 24-hour, 34-stroke turnaround for Jamestown High School girls golf Tuesday in Dickinson.

The sophomore shot a new tournament personal-best 88, helping the Blue Jays turn in a 385 team score at Heart River Golf Course. Jamestown placed sixth of nine teams at the Dickinson Invite, one day after carding a 419 at Links of North Dakota in Williston.

"(Monday) was a long, rough day for us. However, we managed to putt well," JHS coach Tracy Gustafson said. "Today's round in Dickinson went much better."

Vogel fired an impressive 39 over her first nine holes, but a 49 on Heart River's front nine produced her 88. Vogel shot an 89 to open the season at the Turtle Mountain Invite.

Alyssa Zachrison followed Vogel with a 91. Cora Wolsky and Lauryn Hibl rounded out Jamestown's team card at 102 and 104, respectively.

"Alyssa was more consistent today as well, with more focus on putting and reading greens accurately," Gustafson said. "Cora made smart club selections and was choosing appropriate landing zones for her shots. Lauryn had a great start to her round (43), but struggled to keep the rhythm after the turn."

Freshman Bria Nieswaag also competed for the Jays, ending her day at 107.

"Bria is really hitting the ball well and her chipping has improved since the first day of practice," Gustafson said.

Williston took top team honors at 330, with the Coyotes' Kaleigh Carmichael and Bismarck St. Mary's Gabby Easton sharing medalist honors at 76. The Blue Jays will be at the Minot Invite on Monday (Aug. 27).

"We had some areas of struggle, but we made better contact hitting the ball today compared to yesterday at the Links (Williston)," Gustafson said. "I'm excited for a break from tournaments after Monday. It will give us time to get back into the swing of things at practice and work out kinks that have been troublesome the last few tournaments."
