Blue Jay golf finishes eighth in season opener

Jamestown High School boys golf shot a 359 and finished eighth during its first outdoor action of the year on Thursday, April 18, at the Century-Legacy Invitational at Tom O'Leary Golf Course in Bismarck.

Jed Truax and Bryan Mitchell paced the Blue Jays as they both carded an 88 on the afternoon.

"I felt like we played pretty well considering it was the first balls hit outside. I am pretty happy with our play," said Jamestown coach John Samuelson. "Jed and Bryan both felt like they left a lot of shots on the course, yet I was pretty happy with their play."

Brooks Carroll followed for the Blue Jays with a 91, followed by Darynt Carroll (92), Shea Carroll (95) and Ben Sletto (99).

"Darynt and Brooks both played better and seem to be right there," Samuelson said. "The greens were very inconsistent and was a struggle for us, yet that's to be expected for an early tournament."

Next up for the Blue Jays will be the East-West Classic at Jamestown Country Club on April 26-27.

"Taking eighth was not the place we all felt was where we wanted to be, but with such a young team, I believe we're going to play better with a little outside practice," Samuelson said.
