Optimist Club weekly athletes

Hannah Schiele, Talor Huebner, Morgan Hensch and Donavan Moser were selected Jamestown Optimist Club athletes of the week.

Schiele, a senior on the Blue Jay gymnastics team, was the beam and all-around champion at a dual in Aberdeen. She also placed second on the floor and bars, and was third on vault in the Jays' victory.

Huebner, a freshman on the Blue Jay wrestling team, was runner-up at 113 pounds during the Jamestown Knights of Columbus tournament. It was Huebner's first tournament placing and helped the Jays finish fourth of nine teams.

Hensch, a senior on the Jimmie volleyball team from Fergus Falls, Minn., helped lead Jamestown to the final 16 teams of the NAIA Women's National Volleyball Championship tournament. Hensch talled 47 kills and nine blocks and was one of 14 players selected to the nation's all-tournament team.

Moser, a junior on the Jimme men's track and field team from Medina, ran 1:17:00 in his first half marathon in Fremont, Neb. He finished 20th of 37 runners, 2 minutes off qualifying for the NAIA marathon.

Class A basketball polls

Minot High boys and Bismarck Century girls topped the first Class A basketball polls of the season Wednesday.

The Magicians are off to a 2-0 start and received nine first-place votes, while the Century girls are 1-0 and received 11 first-place votes.
