There'll be a new champion this fall in high school 9-man football.
Defending champion Kidder County lost to Beach 20-12 on Saturday in a state quarterfinal playoff game played in Steele.
The host-team Wolves led 12-8 at the half but were shutout after the break. KC senior Payton Cauthon returned a kickoff 74 yards for a score and also ran a 70-yard fumble recovery into the end for a score.
Beach's Tyson Mattern scored a second rushing touchdown after halftime and Trin Schumacher hauled in a 26-yard TD pass from Tevin Dietz in the fourth quarter.
Beach (7-2) travels to second-ranked Cavalier (11-0) -- a trek of over 430 miles -- next Saturday with the winner advancing to the Dakota Bowl on Nov. 13 at the Fargodome.
Cavalier upended Mayville/PCG 52-6 in Saturday's quarterfinals. Kidder County closes the season at 7-2.

Broncos breeze past Eagles
Lisbon football is a victory away from heading to the Fargodome.
The Broncos scored 28 unanswered points in the first half Saturday in defeating North Border 32-8 in a Class A state quarterfinal playoff game in Lisbon. Jordan Sours ran in touchdowns of 65, 58 and 16 yards in the first half.
Second-ranked Lisbon (8-0) will host third-ranked Velva (10-0) next Saturday at 2 p.m. The Aggies took care of Dickinson Trinity 33-0 in Saturday's quarterfinals.
