Jamestown College may have a different quarterback under center on Saturday when they play at Wisconsin-LaCrosse for the first time.

Brad Lint suffered a concussion in Saturday's loss to Valley City State and coach Bud Etzold said the senior from Roseburg, Ore., is "extremely doubtful."

"I looked into his eyes when we got back Saturday and it was like an empty lot," the JC coach said.

Lint has been under considerable pressure in each of the Jimmies' three losses, being sacked a combined 16 times in those games.

Part of the problem is that the offensive line has dealt with injuries to several key players from the get-go. Codi Berggreen (leg/knee) had to leave Saturday's game against the Vikings and is doubtful at best for this week.

Matt Steiner, who has played everywhere along the O-Line, tweaked his shoulder against VCSU, but has the best chance of the three to play against the Eagles, who are 1-3, but they play in what is generally considered the best Division III conference in the NCAA, the WIAC.

Tyler Notch, a junior from Eagle Bend, Minn., would likely get the start if Lint can't go on Saturday. Notch missed all of last season with a shoulder injury and has seen limited action this season in mop-up duty.

Jada Meiklejohn has been named the Dakota Athletic Conference's Setter of the Week.

The senior from Dickey, N.D., who played her high school volleyball for LaMoure, had 70 assists, 17 digs, and five aces as the Jimmies went 3-0 last week.

Meiklejohn is a 2-year starter for the Jimmies. Her mom Mona was the head basketball coach for years at LaMoure.

The Jimmie men's golf team was dominant in the first half of the DAC golf season and the standings reflect that.

Jamestown College won all five meets it played in. Officially, the Jimmies have a team score of 9 after the opening half. The second half has three more meets, beginning in April.

Four of the top seven scoring averages belonged to the Jimmies.

Brad Quast has a slight edge over teammate Tommy Rockis, 28.5 to 27. The scoring system awards 13 points for a win, 9 for second, 8 for third and so on.

Kameron Hunter is fourth (21.5) and Jack Bietz is seventh (12), although he won two events, but neither was one of three where points were scored -- which was the meet in Carrington, Dickinson and Valley City.

Kelsey Ross and Tracy Gustafson are ranked 1-2 in the women's standings, but the Jimmies are No. 2 (6.5) behind Dickinson State (8.5).

Ross has a 4-point lead over Gustafson, 31-27. They are the only two Jimmies in the top 8.

Coach Matt Murken led his team to 21 wins in his debut season, and he returns three starters this year and several other key contributors.

All-conference guard Byron Jones is back, as is fellow backcourt mate B.J. Mertens of Devils Lake. Travis Burley, an all-DAC performer last season, and would certainly be my pick in an NAIA Slam Dunk Contest, also returns.

The Jimmies' first game is Oct. 29 at the Civic Center against the University of Winnipeg.

Valley City State announced a crowd of 1,454 at the VCSU/JC football game on Saturday at Lokken Field.

The Vikings always draw well, but off to a 4-1 start, the bandwagon is filling quickly. The Vikings moved up three spots to No. 20 in the latest NAIA top 25 poll. If VCSU wins out, they will be in the playoffs based on ranking. The DAC does not have an automatic bid this season with the conference having just four league members, six are required.

The Vikings will be favored in each of their last five games, although they have challenging games Oct. 15 at Lokken Field against Dickinson State, and they have to come to Rollie Greeno Field for a rematch with the Jimmies Oct. 22.
