Jamestown Optimist Club's athletes of the week

Devin Beach, Anthonett Nabwe, Marc Kjos and Gaby Sarkis have been selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week.

Devin Beach, Anthonett Nabwe, Marc Kjos and Gaby Sarkis have been selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week.

Beach, a junior on the JHS boys track and field team, placed third in the 55-meter dash (6.85 seconds), second in the 55 hurdles (8.66), second in the long jump (19 feet, 2 inches) and first in the high jump (5-8) at last Saturday's Jamestown/Mandan indoor dual.

Nabwe, a junior on the JHS girls track and field team, recorded a mark of 44 feet, 7 1/2 inches in the shot put during last weekend's indoor meet hosting Mandan. The mark broke a school by more than five feet.

Kjos, a sophomore on the University of Jamestown men's basketball team from Lake City, Minnesota, scored 62 points on 50% percent shooting from the field (21 of 42) in four games as the Jimmies reached the NAIA national tournament quarterfinals. Kjos converted 18 of 38 shots from 3-point range, to go along with 17 assists, six steals and 15 rebounds.

Sarkis, a freshman on the University of Jamestown women's soccer team from New South Wales, Australia, recorded a hat trick in her first collegiate match from the Jimmies. Sarkis netted three goals in an 8-0 victory over Presentation College.
