Yolanda Nabwe, Ben Anteau, Kendall Yackley and Jordynn Toliver have been selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week.
Nabwe, a freshman on the JHS girls track and field team, won the 55 meters, the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump at the Jamestown/Valley City Indoor Dual held at the University of Jamestown's Larson Sport Center.
Anteau, a senior on the JHS boys track and field team, set a new indoor school record in the 3,200 during the Jamestown/Valley City dual, winning the event in a time of 9 minutes, 43.68 seconds. Anteau eclipsed the old school record set in 1981 by over 11 seconds.
Yackley, a sophomore third baseman and pitcher for the University of Jamestown baseball team from Lynnwood, Washington, hit a home run in a win at Northwestern College, Iowa, and threw a complete-game shutout from the pitching mound to help the Jimmies sweep two games over the Red Raiders. Yackley allowed just three hits, while striking out eight and walking two.
Toliver, a sophomore on the University of Jamestown women's track and field team from Box Elder, South Dakota, competed in nine events last weekend at the Black Hills Invite in Spearfish, South Dakota, winning the heptathlon (3,839 points) and helping the UJ 400-meter relay team and the 1,600 relay team earn places. Toliver placed first in the following heptathlon events: high jump, long jump, javelin and the 800.
