JC men finish 2nd in Minot

Jamestown College junior Brad Quast and freshmen Kameron Hunter led the Jimmie men's golf team in a solid finish to its fall season at the Minot State Invitational.

Jamestown College junior Brad Quast and freshmen Kameron Hunter led the Jimmie men's golf team in a solid finish to its fall season at the Minot State Invitational.

The two-day tournament concluded at the Minot Country Club on Monday, with the Jimmie men out-pacing South Dakota Mines and Dickinson State University by one stroke to capture a second-place team finish.

Quast, of Staples, Minn., backed up his opening round score of 76 with a 74 on Monday, finishing in a tie for eighth-place in the individual standings. The invitational's opening round was held at Souris Valley Golf Course on Sunday.

Hunter finished one stroke back of Quast after posting a solid two-day score of 151. The Gillette, Wyo., native was vying for medalist honors after carding a 73 at Souris Valley, but the freshmen slid a bit on Monday turning in an 18-hole round of 78.

The Jimmies trailed both Dickinson State (five strokes) and South Dakota Mines (one stroke) after the first day, but rallied over the final round to put up a final score of 623. The Hardrockers and the Blue Hawks wound up in a tie for third place at 624.

Minot State, the host team, ran away from the field, winning with a score of 589. The Beavers' Casey Gleich earned medalist honors after carding rounds of 73 and 72 (145).

Jamestown College's Jordan Bondley tied for 24th place at 160, while Jake Bauer tied at 31st at 162. The Jimmies' Tommy Rockis finished back in 36th with a two-day score of 164.

The Jimmie women ended its falls season with a fourth-place team finish at the Minot State Invitational.

Jamestown College was paced by junior Tracy Gustafson, who carded an 88 and a 90 to finish in a tie for ninth at 178. The Jimmies produced a team score of 741, which was 47 shots off Minot State's 694.

The Beavers also won the women's team title, led by second-place finisher Ali Hilkewich's 170. Medalist honors went to Black Hills State's Brandi Holmes with a 169.

Rounding out Jamestown College's individual finishers were Heather Cellmer (183), Nicole Stein (189), Jeanette Washburn (191) and Megan Germundson (207).

The Jimmies will now have to wait until spring to see their next action on the links. Jamestown College travels to the South Dakota Mines Invitational on April 10.
