The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team opened pool play at the 2021 NAIA Men's Volleyball National Championship with a sweep of Georgetown College, Kentucky, Tuesday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.
Set scores were 25-15, 25-20, and 25-21.
Jamestown (21-2) will face Park, Missouri, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the final match of pool play.
UJ's Tanner Woods and Samuel Jackman each had four of UJ's 13 kills in the opening set as the Jimmies hit .360 on 25 attempts. Jamestown led 8-7 and went on a 4-0 run started by a Woods kill to go ahead 12-7. Georgetown recorded back-to-back points to close the gap to 12-9, but UJ scored four of the next six to create some separation. A service ace by Derek Owens clinched set one for the Jimmies.
Georgetown took advantage of six Jimmie attack errors and four service errors in set No. 2 and had leads of 9-6, 12-8, and 17-13. Down by four Jamestown rallied back with a 6-0 run for a 19-17 lead. Owens, Woods, and Caylor Cox all had kills as part of the streak. The Tigers scored twice to tie the set at 19, but Woods and Jackman kills put UJ back in front by a pair. Jamestown finished the set by scoring four of the final five points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Cox and Austin Jacob both posted five kills in set three, combining to hit 10 of 11 with no attack errors. Despite trailing 2-0 in the match and 9-3 early in the set, Georgetown stormed back to take a 15-14 lead. After the teams traded points to tie the set at 20, Jacob, Cox, and Owens racked up kills to give UJ a 23-20 lead. A kill by the Tigers stopped the rally, but a service error on the next play followed by another Cox kill closed out the match.
Cox had 10 kills to lead Jamestown, which also got eight kills from Jackman and seven each from Jacob, Owens, and Woods. Jacob hit a team-best .875 and Owens hit .667. Derek Owens passed out 33 assists and Braden Neumann had three of UJ's six service aces. Neumann also had nine digs while Jackman and Jacob each had three total blocks.
