The University of Jamestown football team was unable to overcome a large first-half deficit for a third straight game Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska.

The Jimmies fell behind 27-0 in the second quarter to the rolling Midland University Warriors, who picked up a fourth consecutive victory with a 55-27 win over Jamestown. The Jimmies (0-4) trailed Dordt University 41-0 in the second quarter two weeks ago in Sioux Center, Iowa, and didn't score until the fourth quarter in last week's 54-7 loss to visiting Morningside at Taylor Stadium.

UJ did, however, post its best offensive day through four games. Jimmie quarterback Cade Torgerson threw for a career-high 320 yards, completing 28 of 43 attempts with one touchdown and an interception, as the Jimmies cleared 400 yards (404) of total offense.

Torgerson capped a 69-yard drive with a 13-yard TD strike to freshman Steven Justice to get Jamestown on the board at 27-7 in the second quarter. UJ trailed 41-7 at the half and 55-14 after three quarters.

UJ senior running back Tanner Mathern picked up 30 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored a pair of short-yardage touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. Mathern lost a fumble on the Warriors' 8-yard line on UJ's opening offensive possession, after junior safety Jordan Olson intercepted Midland quarterback River Walker on the fourth play of the game.

The Warriors promptly drove 92 yards in nine plays, capped by an 11-yard TD pass from Walker to Quentin Ternus in the end zone, to score the first of Midland's opening 27 unanswered points.

Justice caught 10 passes for 101 yards and junior Marcus Giles hauled in five receptions from Torgerson for 107 yards.

Midland rushed for 286 yards in the game and passed for 279 more. Keenan Smith handled 15 carries for the home team and tallied 136 yards, while Walker completed 21 of 29 pass attempts.

Freshman defensive end Ethan Helton notched a sack and recovered a fumble for the Jimmies defensively.

Jamestown will play at Taylor Stadium for the final time this season next Saturday. The Jimmies host Hastings College (1-4) for a Halloween homecoming at 1 p.m.

Hastings has lost four straight and fell 27-18 hosting Briar Cliff (1-4) on Saturday.
