Jimmies men's basketball battle in 80-67 win over Presentation

The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team battled in an 80-67 win over Presentation College. The win improves the Jimmies record to 2-0 on the season. The loss drops the Saints to 1-3 on the season.

The Jimmies win the tip and Mason Walters goes up and gets fouled. Walters hit both, to give the Jimmies the early 2-0 lead. Walters swishes a three with 18:30 to go in the first half and the Saints call a timeout with the Jimmies up 7-0. Marc Kjos floated a ball in to put the Jimmies up 11-0, with 16:42 to go in the first half. Dwight Felton pump-faked Devon Schultz and got the foul to get the two shots, and split the pair to make the game 13-1 with 14:53 to go in the first half. Denzel McDuffey got the Saints' first field goal with a jumper, making the game 13-3. The Jimmies called a timeout when McDuffey caught an alley oop and slammed it home to make the game 13-5 with 14:09 to go in the first half.

The Jimmies ended the run when Brady Birch hit a layup with 11:40 to go in the first half, making the game 17-9 in favor of the Jimmies. Walters caught a pass and laid up under the bucket to extend the Jimmies lead to 21-11 with 10:22 to go in the first half. With 10:03 to go in the first half, Saints head coach Stan Holt got called for a technical foul. As a result, Birch went to the line and split the free throws. The Saints’ Tyler Kartchner hit a layup to end the first half with the Jimmies up 37-25.

Walters spun past his defender on the baseline and hit the layup with 14:30 to go to give the Jimmies the 50-38 lead. The Saints’ Jeremiah Gilyard splashed a three from 25 feet out to make the game to 52-43 with 12:50 to go. The Saints bench exploded when Justin Steed hit a three in front of his teammates to make the game 52-49 with 11:02 to go in the second half. Out of a timeout, McDuffey hit a three to tie the game up at 52. Walters put the Jimmies back in the lead with 10 minutes to go, making the score 54-52. The Jimmies’ Schultz erupted as he caught a pass, slammed it home, and got the foul, he missed the free throw but the Jimmies were able to get the rebound and lay it up to extend the Jimmies lead to 69-56.

The Jimmies are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 hosting Trinity Bible. The Saints are back in action at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 when they go to Hastings College.
