Alex Kreis will get to pitch in the postseason in his first pro season.

The Auburn (N.Y.) Doubledays, the short-season Class A minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals, advanced to the New York-Penn League playoffs. They open a 3-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters tonight.

It's the first time since 2007 that the Doubledays have advanced to the playoffs.

Kreis is 1-1 with two saves and an ERA of 5.97 in 18 relief appearances. He's allowed 35 hits in 28 2/3 innings, but has allowed just two runs in his last seven appearances, spanning 10 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts.

Kreis, who was named Dakota Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2010 and 2011 for the Jimmies, was drafted in the 35th round by the Nationals in June's Major League Baseball draft.
