The radio voice for University of Jamestown and Jamestown High School athletics Steve Linzmeier revealed he has been terminated as Jamestown sports director for i3G Media.

Linzmeier shared the information via his personal social media accounts Monday morning. The sports play-by-play announcer and radio personality for i3G's News Dakota and AM 1400 ESPN Jamestown said he had been employed with the local media outlet since November of 2011.

"As of this morning, after 8.5 years and over 1000 games, I was told my employment at the radio station in Jamestown was no longer needed," Linzmeier stated on both his Facebook and Twitter accounts.

i3G Media General Manager in Jamestown Tanea Clocksene had no comment when reached via telephone Monday. A message left for i3G Media part-owner Todd Ingstad was not immediately returned.

Linzmeier was awarded a small market Eric Sevareid Award by the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association in April for his play-by-play call of the 2019 Class A high school boys basketball state championship game played between Jamestown and Fargo Davies at the Bismarck Events Center. Linzmeier traveled to Santa Barbara, California, last May to cover the University of Jamestown baseball team in the NAIA playoffs.

In 2016, Linzmeier was named the North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

"The people of our community are going to miss you more than you know Steve! I always thought that the Jamestown community was spoiled with the passion and energy you had for these kids," wrote University of Jamestown head football coach Brian Mistro on Linzmeier's Facebook page Monday.

Paul McDonald is i3G Media's Valley City sports director at News Dakota and has regularly performed play-by-play duties for Jamestown High School boys hockey. Linzmeier's final call for i3G Media was during last Thursday's Class A Senior Babe Ruth baseball opener between the Jamestown Eagles and the Dickinson Roughriders at Jack Brown Stadium on AM 1400.

"There isn't anyone around this area of the country that cares more about giving our kids their moment to shine. There isn't anyone that cares more about providing the best for our town," wrote Jamestown High School volleyball coach Sara Hegerle on Linzmeier's Facebook page. "Thank you for your dedication to the Blue Jays and the Jimmies."
