FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Fargo police are investigating the assault of a 37-year-old man by as many as five men at an area hotel, one of whom may have used a hammer during the incident.

Sgt. Mark Lykken says witness told police one of the men used a blunt object -- possibly a hammer -- during the Friday morning assault.

Lykken says the witness told police he left the room, and when he came back the men were assaulting the victim.

The Forum reports that police searched the area for the suspects but didn't find them.

The victim sustained bruises to his head and was taken by ambulance to Essentia Health. His injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.
