Merchants nip Expos for seventh win

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants scored all 3 of their runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Moorhead Expos 3-2 on Wednesday and improve to 7-2 overall.

The Jamestown Miller Lite Merchants scored all 3 of their runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Moorhead Expos 3-2 on Wednesday and improve to 7-2 overall.

Leadoff man Blake Eller went 2 for 3 with a run scored for the Merchants, while Bryan Erstad doubled and drove in all three runs for the winners.

Ryan Williams started and went 6 strong on the hill for the Merchants. Jason Schutt notched the win, striking out 3 over 2 scoreless frames. Josh Remer worked the ninth for the save.

The Merchants play in the Brookings (S.D.) Cubbies tournament this weekend, facing Brandon Valley, S.D. and Redfield, S.D., on Saturday. The semifinal and finals are Sunday.
