It was a good day for running and Annie Nabwe took full advantage.
The Jamestown High School junior broke her own school record in the 100-meter dash at the Karlgaard Invite Thursday night at the Bismarck Community Bowl. Nabwe crossed the line at 12.33 seconds -- 0.19 seconds faster than her previous best.
Nabwe's first-place finish helped the Blue Jay girls track and field team to a 109-point, third-place finish while the boys team ended up fourth with 94 points.
"I think it was a great move by Bismarck to move the meet up from (Friday) to (Thursday)," JHS co-head track and field coach Ken Gardner said. "I think the high for Friday is 39 degrees but (Thursday) it was in the low 60s. It was a little breezy but not bad. I think that shows in the results."
Nabwe didn't compete in her signature race last week at the Jays' meet in West Fargo Sheyenne due to cold weather and coaches pulling sprinters from events in efforts to avoid injuries. While most of the Blue Jay distance runners got their races in last week, an uptick in temperature was a welcome break from temps in the 30s and snow flurries.

Ben Anteau set a PR on the track cruising to a time of 4 minutes, 24 seconds in the 1,600-meter run. The time, 32 seconds faster than Dalton Fleckenstein’s second-place finish, qualified Anteau to the 2021 North Dakota Class A State Track and Field meet.
The boys 4x800 meter relay team is about one second away from that state qualifying time.
Gavin Haut, Chandlar Rott, Kade Schumacher and Micah Hoke all pulled together to earn a first-place finish in the 4x8 crossing the line at 8:25.25 -- three seconds ahead of the second-place Dickinson team and 21 seconds ahead of their finish last week in West Fargo Sheyenne.
"They were a little disheartened after their performance last week, but boy did they step it up today," Gardner said.
In field events, Daniel Ulrich tied Kyler Scott of Bismarck High for the top finish in the high jump. Both Ulrich and Scott cleared the bar at 5 feet, 8 inches. Devin Beach also cleared the beam at 5-8. In long jump, Brode Hillstrom placed third recording a jump of 20 feet, 10 inches -- qualifying to State by one inch.
Thomas Allmer, has been the Jays' main man in the throws and Thursday was no exception. Allmer finished fourth in the shot put (46-09) and third in the discus (139-08). Allmer qualified to the state meet in discus last week at the Jays' meet in West Fargo Sheyenne.
The Blue Jays are expected to have a stacked week next week, starting with the Mar Club Invitational in Mandan on Thursday.
