North Dakota wetland acreage increases

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The state Game and Fish Department says its fall wetland survey shows about 43 percent more wetlands available for duck hunting than last year.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The state Game and Fish Department says its fall wetland survey shows about 43 percent more wetlands available for duck hunting than last year.

Mike Szymanski, migratory game bird biologist, says wetland conditions are looking good statewide.

Officials say wetland conditions have rebounded from the dry conditions of 2008. At that time, many of the state's wetlands held no water.

The wetland survey is conducted in mid-September to provide an assessment of conditions duck hunters can expect.

Opening day was Saturday for North Dakota residents who hunt ducks, coots, mergansers and geese.
