Blue Jays Roundup: Track and Field has successful outing in Fargo

The Jamestown High School track and field team competed at a meet hosted by Fargo Davies on April 27.

FARGO — What was supposed to be a meet in Mandan on Thursday turned into one at Fargo Davies.

But Jamestown High School head track and field coach Ken Gardner didn't care where the meet was — as long as it was outside.

"We were glad to get to another outdoor meet at Fargo Davies," Gardner said. "It was great weather when we arrived, but got progressively cooler and windier — at least we stayed dry."

Official results were unavailable when the Jamestown Sun went to press but from what Gardner observed, the Jays have seemed to make some progress in the last couple of weeks.

"The boys made some improvements over our last meet and earned several top-5 places," Gardner said. "Noah Lynch placed fifth in the 400. Brady Harty placed fourth in the 800. Tuyikeze Faustin placed fourth in the 110 hurdles.

"Gradin Thorlakson, Brady Harty, Jared Sagaser, and Noah Lynch placed first in the 4x400 relay and Jackson Rose placed first in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump."

Not too shabby for a team that is mostly underclassmen.

As for the Blue Jay girls, Yolanda Nabwe and Bernadette Belzer finished first and fourth respectively in the 100 hurdles, both with a state-qualifying time. The pair, along with Julia Skari, also punched their tickets to State in the 300 hurdles. Allysah Larson, Belzer, Skari, and Nabwe pulled together to finish first in the 4x100 relay. The 4x100 team qualified for State for the second-straight year. Larson, Skari, Haylie Hakanson and Belzer ended their night on the track with a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Across the field, Larson claimed first prize in long jump while Kinley and Kendyl Anderson cleaned up in the throws. The twin sisters finished third and fourth in the shot put. Kinley also placed first in discus while Kendyl finished fifth in the javelin.

Next up for the Jays is a meet in Carrington on May 6.
