Class B Roundup: Oakes, E/K-M move on in D5 girls hoops tourney

The Tornadoes are now on an eight game winning streak.

JAMESTOWN — The No. 2-seeded Oakes Tornadoes came out flying and it showed as they were able to get a 56-10 win over No. 7-seeded Barnes County North in the District 5 tournament on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Jamestown Civic Center.

The Tornadoes (17-2) opened the game on a 37-0 run before the Bison (0-19) were able to get on the board on a three from Jayden Samek. It did not get much better for the Bison in the second half as they were shut out in the fourth quarter.

The Tornadoes were led by Lily Thorpe and Emma Muggli’s 12 points. The Bison were led by Samek’s 10 points.

The Tornadoes return to the court at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, when they face the winner of the game between E/K-M and Griggs-Midkota. The Bison look to end the losing streak at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, when they face the loser of the game between the Rebels and the Titans.

E/K-M sprints past Griggs-Midkota

The last game of the first day of the District 5 tournament saw a similarly big run to the game immediately proceeding it as the Edgeley/Kulm-Montpelier Rebels opened the game on a 27-3 run and got a 57-22 win over the Griggs-Midkota Titans on, Feb. 10, at the Jamestown Civic Center.

The Rebels (14-5) were led by Mataeya Mathern’s 16 points. The Titans (2-17) were led by Vanessa Vollmer’s six points.

The Rebels return to the floor at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, when they face Oakes. The Titans are back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, when they take on Barnes County North.
