Blue Jay soccer advances to state qualifier

Haley Nelson and Payton Rudnick scored in the 6th and 63rd minutes, respectively, for Jamestown High School girls soccer as the Blue Jays held on to defeat Bismarck Legacy 2-1 in a West Region tournament play-in game at Dacotah Centennial Park in Mandan on Tuesday, May 21.

Sixth-seeded Jamestown (4-8-2) will play No. 3 Mandan (7-4-1) in a state-qualifying contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. back at Dacotah Centennial Park.

Nelson’s sixth minute goal was assisted by Breanna Oettle, while the Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Peyton Rudnick scored an unassisted insurance goal in the second half. Legacy’s Mikayla Fast cut the lead in half -- 2-1 -- with three minutes remaining.

Jamestown and Mandan split a pair of regular-season matches, with the Braves winning 1-0 on April 16 and the Blue Jays claiming a 4-2 victory on May 14.
