David Ernst of Fargo South has been named the 2010 Gatorade Player of the Year.
Ernst, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior, has gone 8-0 on the mound for the Bruins this season with a sparkling 0.69 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 51 innings. His fastball is consistently clocked in the mid-to-upper 80s.
He's also excelled with the bat, hitting .437 with 28 RBIs and 3 home runs for the 25-4 Bruins, who are the top seed from the East in the state Class A tournament, which begins today in Mandan.
Ernst carries a 3.78 GPA at Fargo South and also plays basketball for the Bruins.
