Sport Shorts: Hoppe gets AOW honors

The Jamestown Optimist Club released the Athlete of the Week awards on Nov. 4

Penelope Hoppe, a senior for the University of Jamestown women's soccer team, scored the game-tying goal against Briar Cliff to help propel the Jimmies to the GPAC Conference regular-season championship on Saturday in Jamestown.

The Jimmies finished the regular season 16-0-1 and clinched a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.

Lucas Schumacher, a freshman for the UJ men's basketball team came off the bench to score 15 points, making all five of his attempted 3-pointers in a victory over Trinity Bible College. Schumacher also grabbed a pair of rebounds and handed out an assist.

Over at Jamestown High School, freshman Julia Skari scored over 300 points in route to state qualifying score at the Marney Shirley Invite on Oct. 30.
