Optimist Club's weekly athletes

Track and field athletes Zeb Willer, Carly Raap, Lindi Chadwick and Matt Young were named Optimist Club athletes of the week.

Willer, a junior at Jamestown High School, improved his time in the boys 800 meters by 11 seconds (2 minutes, 9 seconds) at the Bill Jansen Last Chance Meet in Valley City on Monday. Raap, a sophomore on the JHS girls track and field team, qualified for state in the long jump (16 feet, 11 inches), 400 (1:01.24) and the 4x100 relay (52.59).

Chadwick, a University of Jamestown junior from Jamestown, won the women's 5,000 meters at the Concordia Twilight Meet on Friday in Seward, Neb. Chadwick shaved 40 seconds off her personal best with a time of 19:58.12.

Young, a senior at UJ from Woodland, Wash., won the Brookings Half Marathon on Saturday and qualified for the men's NAIA outdoor nationals in the event with a time of 1:13:31.86. Young has qualified for outdoor nationals, which begins May 25 in Gulf Shores, Ala., in four straight seasons.

Youth tennis lessons

Jamestown Parks and Rec is offering youth tennis lessons for ages 5-18 on June 3-27 and July 8-Aug. 1. The cost is $35 for one session or $65 for both.
