JHS wrestlers earn awards

Jamestown High School wrestling recently handed out its team awards for the 2019-20 season.

Jackson Walters was named Rookie of the Year, Adyn Eckart earned both the Spirit & Dedication Award and JV Wrestler of the Year Award, Aden Braun was selected for the Rambo Award, Pete Rasmussen was named Most Improved and Noah Braun received the 177 Career Wins Award, the Captain's Award and the Outstanding Wrestler Award.

Noah Braun, a Blue Jay senior, wrestled to a state championship at 152 pounds at the Fargodome in February, helping JHS to a fourth-place finish in the Class A wrestling state individual tournament. Jamestown captured third in the Class A state dual tournament.

N.D. Sports Hall of Fame postponed

The 2020 North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet previously scheduled for this Saturday, June 13, at the Jamestown Civic Center has been postponed to June 12, 2021.

The North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame committee decided to reschedule the biannual event due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As health organizations have strengthened their advisories, it is clear that caution is the best way to assist in restricting the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” the committee stated in a press release issued by committee president Pam Fosse. “The priority of the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame is the health, safety, and wellness of our Hall of Fame members, inductees, committee, and attendees.”

The North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame plans to hold an induction ceremony and banquet in both 2021 and 2022. The 2021 inductees will be former NFL safety Doug Beaudoin, former Kansas Jayhawk men’s basketball player Jeff Boschee, former Carrington High School and North Dakota State track and field star Whitney (Carlson) Bruins and former NHL winger Mike Peluso.

Facilities open at Hillcrest

Bathrooms and locker rooms are now accessible at Hillcrest Golf Course and Pro Shop in Jamestown. The hours of operation are between 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Tee times are required to golf and can be scheduled either online at www.jamestownparksandrec.com or by calling 252-4320.

Hillcrest hosting junior programs

Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown will be hosting a two-day Junior Golf Camp on June 22-23.

The camp is for kids between the ages of 9-17 and is open to the first 30 junior golfers to sign up. The cost is $20 per junior.

Hillcrest will also be hosting a Stick for Kids Junior Golf program for juniors between the ages of 9-17 to the first 25 to sign up.

The program will be held June 24, July 8, July 15 and July 22 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost to register is $20.
