Optimist Club's weekly athletes
Thomas Allmer, Taylor Williamson, Meghan Orr and Jorden Morales were selected Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week for the week of April 12-18.
Allmer, a junior on the JHS boys track and field team, qualified for the state meet in the discus with a winning toss of 152 feet, 1 inch at the West Fargo Sheyenne Quadrangular, while also placing second in the shot put.
Williamson, a senior on the JHS girls track and field team, placed in all three throwing events at the West Fargo Sheyenne Quadrangular, taking second in the discus, fourth in the shot put and sixth in the javelin.
Orr, a senior on the UJ women's track and field team from Jamestown, won the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 66.72 seconds at the Blue Hawk Games on April 17, after setting a career-best time in the 100 meters with a fifth-place 12.92.
Morales, a freshman on the UJ men's track and field team from Phoenix, Arizona, won the discus at the Blue Hawk Games with a throw of 43.20 meters (141 feet, 9 inches), after recording a career-best in the shot put of 12.39 meters (40-8) for eighth place.

Summer youth tennis lessons
Jamestown Parks and Rec is offering two sessions of youth tennis lessons this summer for ages 5-18.
Registration is online at www.jamestownparksandrec.com.
The first session will be held from June 1 through June 25. The second session will run from July 5 through July 29.
Cost is $35 for one session or $65 for both. For more information, contact the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department at 252-3982.
